Tornado ‘likely’ touched down in Wellesley Township, says Northern Tornadoes Project

Northern Tornadoes Project confirmed they have found evidence to suggest a tornado hit Wellesley Township Wednesday evening. CTV's Krista Simpson has more.

The Northern Tornadoes Project says a tornado likely touched down in Bamberg, Ont. during Wednesday’s storm.

Survey teams were expected to return to the village, located in the Township of Wellesley, to continue their investigation on Friday.

In an update late Thursday evening, the Northern Tornadoes Project said there is evidence suggesting a twister hit the area.

They did not share details about what they found.

Meteorologists at Environment Canada spotted a “tornado debris signature” on radar in the Bamberg area during the storm, around Weimer Line and Hackbart Road.

The Northern Tornadoes Project said there was also evidence of a tornado in the Tavistock area.

In other updates, investigators confirmed an EF1 downburst near Brodhagen, a small community in West Perth.

Damage in Toronto and Orr Lake, near Barrie, were also blamed on downbursts.

The Northern Tornadoes Project has not yet determined their ratings.

It’s also believed a tornado hit east Windsor. That, and other damage in Essex County and Kent County, including Wheatley, are still under investigation.
