A man from Brant County is celebrating a huge lottery win. Raymond Gubbins, a 62-year-old from St. George who works in the grocery industry, said he has been playing OLG’s Lotto Max for as long as he can remember. He usually picks up his tickets on Tuesday and Fridays and checks his numbers while enjoying a coffee. The morning after the Jan. 20 draw, Gubbins couldn’t believe his eyes. “I thought I was dreaming. I didn’t want to wake up my wife, so I went to the supermarket to double-check my ticket,” he said. “Someone in line told me someone local won big and jokingly asked if it was me. It didn’t even feel real yet!” Once the winning ticket was validated, he sent a photo of it to his wife. The ticket was worth $15 million. “It’s probably going to be another couple of months before it really sinks in.” Gubbins said he will be enjoying a relaxing retirement. The winning ticket was bought at the Esso on Beverly Street in St. George.
