A man who dedicated more than 35 years of his life to politics in the Brant County area has died. In a news release on Friday, the County of Brant announced the passing of former County of Brant Mayor Ron Eddy. During his political career, Eddy served as the reeve for the former Township of South Dumfries, which includes present-day Glen Morris and St. George. He was also Warden of Brant County and a Liberal Member of Provincial Parliament. In 1998, after amalgamation, Eddy continued to serve his community as the mayor of Brant County until he was unseated by David Bailey in 2018. He was 87-years-old at the time. The statement from the County of Brant credits Eddy with being “instrumental” to establishing the single-tier municipality. After his time in politics ended, he continued to be involved in the community. He is listed as one of the Cobblestone Common Committee members who helped to make downtown Paris’ Cobblestone Common Park a reality. In 2024, the county renamed a portion of Governors Road East in his honour. Flags at County of Brant facilities have been lowered to half-mast to acknowledge his death.
