A Kitchener man is celebrating his $1 million Encore win. David Scott matched all seven numbers, in the exact order, in the Oct. 18 Lottario draw. “I won $700 once, but this is my first major win,” the 64-year-old told the OLG while picking up his prize in Toronto. Scott, a big sports fan, was watching an NFL game when he remembered he needed to check his lottery tickets. “I thought the app was broken,” he recalled. “On the same day I found out I won, the Toronto Blue Jays and my favourite NFL team, the Cleveland Browns, also won — I thought, ‘Wow, this day can’t get any better! It was a great Sunday!” The father of three and grandfather to two looks forward to spending more time with his family. “I also plan to pay some bills and do a couple of home renovations. I think we’ll go somewhere nice for my 65th birthday in March,” Scott said. “This win is life changing. You just can’t fathom it until you experience it.” Scott was not the only local lottery winner. John Bald of Waterloo took home the second prize, $161,638.60, in the Lotto 6/49 draw on Sept. 24. The 59-year-old plans to spend the money on his children. “We already had travel plans, and this is going to help quite a bit!” Bald said. A 70-year-old from Guelph, meanwhile, recently won the lottery for the second time this year. David Hodge had the lucky $50,000 ticket for Instant Cash Multi-Win. He also won the same amount in May with Instant Super Strike. “I couldn’t believe it,” he told the OLG. “It’s one thing to win once, but to win again is surreal!” Hodge said he will save the money. “This is one step closer to retirement.” On Tuesday, the OLG also announced six coworkers from Guelph had won $2 million with Ontario 49. San Do, Duc Tu, Gizel Gonzalex, Ha Viet Pham, Thanh Nguyen and Tuyet Ly work together in the automotive industry.
