Laurier’s School of Business and Economics closes stock market to celebrate 60th anniversary

The Lazaridis School of Business and Economics marked a major milestone at the Toronto Stock Exchange.

The Lazaridis School of Business and Economics at Wilfrid Laurier University celebrated a big milestone by closing the Toronto Stock Market.

May 12 marked the school’s 60th anniversary.

Kyle Murray, dean at the Lazaridis School, current students and alumni joined John McKenzie, chief executive officer of TMX Group, to ring the bell that signals the end of business on Canada’s largest exchange.

“This anniversary is a moment to celebrate the ideas we’ve sparked, the leaders we’ve developed, and the impact we’ve created together,” Murray explained in a press release. “As we look ahead, we do so with gratitude for those who built our foundation and excitement for the shared values that will continue to drive our future.”

The university said the Lazaridis School of Business and Economics has more than 6,000 students pursuing undergraduate and graduate programs, as well as more than 40,000 international alumni.
