The Christmas spirit is alive and well at a business in Kitchener. The ovens at The Civil on Charles Street West were fired up on Wednesday, making pepperoni and cheese pizzas for people looking for a hot meal. Pies were handed out free of charge until supplies ran out. Brandon Court, The Civil’s owner, said it’s their way of returning the kindness they’ve received from the community throughout the year. “We’re not actually open for regular business today,” Court said. “We’re just open to give away pizzas to anyone – and honestly, not just anyone in need; anyone. People are spending a lot of money on the holidays, so it’s a little bit of a break for them.” This is The Civil’s third year handing out free pizzas. The food was carefully made by Court’s family. “My wife and our three kids are here,” he smiled. Jose Argueta follows the business on Instagram and learned about the giveaway online. “It’s a great way to celebrate with the local community and myself, personally, I come to The Civil a lot and to see this happening is just a great gesture,” he said.
