Two people were rescued Monday morning from a burning home in Kitchener. Neighbours told CTV News they saw flames shooting out of the side of 499 Strasburg Road. Crews arrived on scene quickly thanks to the home’s proximity to Kitchener Fire Station #1, located just down the road. “Firefighters initiated an aggressive attack, successfully extinguishing the fire and rescued two individuals from the basement,” Deputy Fire Chief Patrick O’Halloran said. No injuries were reported by either the residents or firefighters. The five people living in the home have all been displaced. CTV News also spoke with the landlord of 499 Strasburg Road who said he’s grateful that everyone got out safely, though it could be at least six months before anyone can move back in. He also said his insurance company will be conducting an investigation into the fire. Officials have not released the cause of the fire or a damage estimate.
