One person dead, another hurt in Highway 8 crash near Hamilton

Ontario Provincial Police are investigating a fatal crash near Hamilton.

They said a tractor trailer and two cars collided on Highway 8, east of Rockton, just before 5:30 a.m. Tuesday.

“One vehicle caught fire,” Sgt. Kerry Schmidt explained in a social media video. “One person [was] pronounced deceased at the scene. One other person taken to hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.”

OPP are looking at a number of factors that may have contributed to the crash.

“It was dark, still foggy but misty at the time,” Schmidt said. “Obviously we’re looking into road conditions, weather conditions, driver condition.”

OPP warned drivers that Highway 8, between Orkeny Road and Highway 52, may be closed for most of the morning.
