Five suspected drug-related deaths reported in both Brantford-Brant and Haldimand-Norfolk

Grand Erie Public Health is warning of a troubling trend within their borders.

Ten suspected drug-related deaths have been reported so far this year, including five deaths in Brantford-Brant and another five in Haldimand-Norfolk.

“Three of the Brantford-Brant deaths occurred between January 26 – February 1, 2026,” a news release published on Thursday said. “This is a higher number of drug-related deaths than what is typical for this short period of time. The substance(s) responsible are unknown.”

People are urged to call 911 if they suspect someone is experiencing an overdose.

If possible, Naloxone should be administered. Naloxone is a substance that can temporarily reverse the symptoms of an opioid overdose. If someone has not taken opioids, Naloxone will have no effect and that person will not be harmed. It is still important to seek medical help after Naloxone has been given to a person experiencing an overdose.

Anyone who is using drugs is encouraged to always have someone else around who can call for help if it’s needed.
