The Hamilton Police Service say a fast-food receipt was a key piece of evidence in the arrest of a 16-year-old boy. Police received complaints about an abandoned vehicle blocking traffic in the Highway 8 and King Street East area on Tuesday around 7:50 a.m. When officers arrived, they found an unoccupied black Ford Explorer had been left on the road with its hazard lights on. Investigators learned the vehicle had been reported as stolen from the Halton Region earlier this month. While searching the vehicle for clues, they discovered a receipt for a fast-food restaurant that included both the date and time of purchase. Armed with that information, officers went to the restaurant and watched the business’ security footage. An officer recognized a teenager who was caught on camera at the store during the time on the receipt. Officers went to the teen’s house and arrested the 16-year-old boy. He has been charged with possession of property obtained by crime over $5,000 and failure to comply with a youth sentence order.
