Waterloo Regional Police are investigating a Kitchener collision involving an e-bike and a Toyota Camry. Emergency services responded to the crash Monday around 9:45 p.m. on Victoria Street North near Frederick Street. The e-bike rider, a 52-year-old Kitchener man, was taken to hospital with serious, non-life-threatening injuries. The driver of the Toyota, a 57-year-old Woolwich Township man, was not injured. Roads nearby have reopened after closing down for initial investigation. The 57-year-old was charged with turn not in safety. Officers determined that the e-bike did not comply with provincial regulations regarding to motor size and maximum speed, legally making it a motor vehicle. The rider was then charged with several offences related to licensing, registration, permit and insurance requirements, as well as driving while under suspension. Anyone who witnessed the collision or has dash camera footage is asked to call Waterloo Regional Police at 519-570-9777, extension 8856.
