Ontario Provincial Police are looking for two people who stole alcohol from a store in Wellington County. Security video of the incident was posted to social media, but OPP did not say where or when the theft happened, or how much booze was taken. “These two suspects simply walk into the store, load up a bag full of unpaid bottles of alcohol and simply walk out of the store,” the post said. The incident followed another theft, also caught on camera, at an LCBO in Kitchener. On Aug. 23, six men grabbed approximately $8,000 in alcohol off store shelves, stuffed the bottles into large bags and walked out without paying. No arrests had been announced as part of that investigation. At a press conference on Aug. 27, Premier Doug Ford called the men a “brazen bunch of crooks.” He reiterated those comments Tuesday at a media event in Kitchener. “They’re coming in and stealing off the people of Ontario?” Ford said. “The LCBO is the people’s company. It’s the people’s money.” The premier also expressed his dissatisfaction with the bail system, even though there has been no indication from police that any of the suspects were out on bail at the time of the thefts. “They need to go to jail. They don’t need a slap on the wrist,” Ford said. “They’re out on bail, four, five times. They don’t get sentenced. We have a bunch of weak-kneed judges. And, by the way, all judges aren’t that way. I’ve talked to judges. There’s some quality, great judges. But there’s a bunch of them, they’re terrible. They need to step down, actually, because they think, after four or five times, breaking into homes and stealing cars, and going into LCBO and stealing off the people, it’s alright. Let’s give them a slap on the wrist and let them try it again. I’m going to be all over this until we get proper justice for the people of Ontario.”
