When Michael Jackson took the stage, dancers and musicians took notes, says Canadian choreographer Luther Brown.

Speaking from the memorial for Jackson in Los Angeles, Calif., Brown told CTV's Canada AM that whenever the king of pop performed, he inspired his fellow musicians and dancers.

"He made everybody take everything he did on stage and (bring it) back home as homework...I'm going to miss waking up and rushing to the TV to catch this new video and catch this new thing that Michael was about to break," he said.

Brown, a choreographer based in Toronto, has worked with a host of musicians, from Jackson's sister Janet to P.Diddy. He is also a judge on CTV's 'So You Think You Can Dance Canada.'

Brown was emotional when asked what he would miss the most about Jackson.

"I'm going to miss everything," he said. "I'm going to miss the perfection of the performance and just how brilliant he was every time he got on stage... you know he always brought something new."

Brown is one of the many celebrities attending the star-studded public memorial today.

The guest list is expected to include Stevie Wonder, Mariah Carey, Usher, Lionel Richie, Kobe Bryant, Jennifer Hudson, John Mayer and Martin Luther King III.

Brown says the memorial is the perfect way to remember the star.

"I think Michael would have loved it. Everybody from old to new is stepping in the picture to really celebrate and commemorate everything that he did," he said.

"I think we all owe it to Michael to really just live this day and just really celebrate all the good things that he's done -- because he's done so many good things."

Fans have gathered from all around the world to witness the memorial in downtown L.A. The memorial begins at 1 p.m. ET, but many have been dancing and singing in the streets since yesterday.

"It's been Michael-mania...It's been Michael on the radio, it's been Michael in their iPods, it's been Michael on their t-shirts. Everybody's going back into their minds and talking about reliving things and all the Michael experiences. You know, people are dancing in the street!"
