KINDERSLEY, Sask. - A Saskatchewan hotel clerk has fallen prey to a telephone scam in which he gave hotel guests' credit-card numbers to a con artist posing as a member of the hotel's technical support staff.

RCMP say the hotel that released the credit card information is in Kindersley, but a news release does not name the hotel or say how many credit-card numbers were involved.

Police say the hotel clerk got a call from a man posing as a staff member from head office who said the computers were about to crash and he needed all the guests' numbers immediately as a backup for billing purposes.

The clerk told police the con man was very convincing, so he provided the information.

Police are cautioning other hotel staff in the province to be aware of this scam.

RCMP are investigating the incident in Kindersley, but have released few other details.
