Health Canada is recalling 14,000 blinds in Canada for being a potential strangulation risk. Harmony Alternating Blinds by Storimage Inc., manufactured in South Korea, were sold in various colours and have a mechanical control operated by a ball chain, which is covered by a transparent cord-shield, the notice said. The affected products, sold from May 2023 to January 2026, are: The product information is on the head rail of the blind, Health Canada said. “Health Canada has determined that the recalled blinds do not meet the Corded Window Coverings Regulations and pose a strangulation hazard," the notice says. “Young children may pull looped cords around their neck, or become entangled in the cords, causing a strangulation hazard and even death.” The company has received no report of incident or injury in Canada as of Feb. 2. According to the notice, Health Canada recommends cordless window coverings, and asks consumers to learn more about blind cord safety. Health Canada also announced a recall last week for blinds from a different brand for the same safety risk. If consumers have an affected product, Health Canada advises to stop using the product and contact Storimage Inc. to obtain a repair kit. The Canada Consumer Product Safety Act also prohibits recalled products from being redistributed, sold or given away in Canada, the notice notes.
