TORONTO - Paintings by Group of Seven members Lawren Harris, Frederick Varley and A.Y Jackson are being auctioned Nov. 26 in Toronto.

The works are from the estate of Helen Eulalie Band, daughter of art collector Charles Shaw Band, and include final oil sketches for Harris's "North Shore, Lake Superior" and "Icebergs, Davis Strait," which are in the collections of the National Gallery of Canada and the McMichael Canadian Art Collection.

Other works by Harris, Jackson's 1926 classic canvas "North Shore, Lake Superior" and Varley's "Nude on a Couch" are being offered as well.

"These works mark the birth of several Canadian icons," said Robert Heffel, vice-president of Heffel Fine Art Auction House which is handling the sale.

"They represent critical points for Harris and Varley, and a classic moment for Jackson. The collection as a whole is remarkable."

In all, 15 works from the Band collection are being sold at the auction, which is being held at the Park Hyatt Hotel in Toronto, although previews of the items will be at the Heffel Gallery in Vancouver starting Oct. 31.

Charles Band was a childhood friend of Harris and married a daughter of one of the original founders of the Art Gallery of Ontario.
