GO Train to Niagara Falls makes first voyage

NIAGARA FALLS, Ont. - Taking a weekend trip to see Niagara Falls just became a little easier for tourists across southwestern Ontario.

Commuters can now visit the Niagara region on weekends and holidays by GO Trains leaving Toronto's Union Station.

The first GO Train arrived in Niagara Falls, Ont. on Saturday, with trips continuing through the summer tourist season until October 12.

Minister of Transportation Jim Bradley, Niagara Falls Mayor Ted Salci and St. Catharines Mayor Brian McMullan arrived on the inaugural voyage.

Bradley says the new GO route will help boost Niagara's tourism industry.

Weekend and holiday trains will run from Union Station to the Niagara Falls Via Rail station with four trips in each direction stopping in Port Credit, Oakville, Burlington, St. Catharines and Niagara Falls.
