TORONTO - The hockey legends who brought Calgary its only Stanley Cup championship are reuniting for a charity game that will pit them against a team of celebrity rockers.
Members of the 1989 Calgary Flames suit up for the Juno Cup on April 4 as part of a weekend of celebrations leading up to the Juno Awards on April 6.
Hockey legend Lanny McDonald will reunite with championship teammates Colin Patterson, Doug Gilmour and Jamie Macoun for a two-period match at Calgary's Stampede Corral.
They'll join veteran players Bob Probert, Brad Dalgarno, Mark Napier, Mike Pelyk, Paul Coffey and Russ Courtnall.
The musicians' team will be lead by Blue Rodeo singer Jim Cuddy, and include Sloan's Chris Murphy and Andrew Scott, singer Tom Cochrane, "Canadian Idol" judge Zack Werner and country singer Shane Yellowbird.
Tickets go on sale Saturday.
"Each year the musicians are taught a lesson in humility by the NHL alumni - and yet each year, we still think we have a chance," Cuddy said Wednesday in a release.
"Such is the great game of hockey and in the end we are bruised and beaten but still smiling. It's a great time."
The annual fundraiser is in support of MusiCan, a charity that helps fund school musical instruments and scholarships and sponsors a teacher of the year award.
