ST. THOMAS, Ont. - The Ford plant in St. Thomas, Ont., is on the selling block ahead of its expected closing later this year.
The price tag for the 2.1 million-square-foot facility is $22.75 million, with an adjacent 161 acre vacant parcel of land going for an extra $3.2 million.
The plant makes the police interceptor Crown Victoria.
The union is in talks with company officials at the head office in Oakville to try and minimize the impact of the closure on employees.
CAW president Ken Lewenza says the writing has been on the wall for a while.
"Ford, from our perspective, had no desire to invest in the facility... and the final nail is when they put it up for sale," he said.
Lewenza added they are still willing to be flexible in order to keep jobs in the area.
"It doesn't necessarily have to be a new vehicle...but with all of Ford's success should result in some investment in Canada, resulting in jobs for Ford workers."
