Regina police have taken a local man into custody in connection with the suspected abduction of his daughter and his estranged partner, both of whom were the subject of a day-long Amber Alert.

Police had asked for the public's help in locating young Samantha Martyn and her mother, Natasha Sentes, 34, after they were last seen in Regina on Monday night.

Sentes was last seen at her Regina workplace. Her daughter was last seen being dropped off to be with her father, 39-year-old Christopher Martyn.

Sentes was supposed to return to pick up her daughter after finishing work. Within a few hours, police were told that a family friend could not make contact with them.

An Amber Alert was issued and police later confirmed that Samantha and her father had been seen at a gas station in Manitou, Manitoba -- more than 500 kilometres east of Regina – in the early hours of Tuesday morning. A woman presumed to be Sentes was seen sitting in the car parked at the gas station, though her identity could not be confirmed by police.

The missing women were found along with Christopher Martyn at a residence in Regina at about 8 a.m. on Wednesday morning, police spokesperson Lara Guzik told reporters at a news conference later in the day.

A relative called police to say that Martyn and the missing women had turned up at the residence, she said.

CTV Regina's Wayne Mantyka said the house where the women were located is about one block away from a residence where Samantha Martyn was last seen in Regina.

Guzik said the young girl was found in "great health," though her mother was found with "non-life threatening," but visible injuries.

Christopher Martyn was taken into custody, though he has not been charged, said Guzik.

Guzik said Martyn and the two women are undergoing questioning by police, though police are still "treating it and investigating it as a suspected abduction."

The Amber Alert was cancelled just after 9 a.m. local time, said Guzik. More than 40 tips poured into police while the women were missing.

Since the Amber Alert was issued Tuesday, police had said they were concerned about the safety of Sentes and her daughter.

In a telephone interview on Wednesday morning, Regina police Staff Sgt. Ron Weir told CTV's Canada AM that the investigation shows "Christopher Martyn and Natasha Sentes have been in an on-again, off-again relationship for approximately that past eight or nine years. And during that time, they had this four-year-old daughter, Samantha together."

Court documents indicate that Christopher Martyn is required to go through lawyers in order to make contact with his daughter.

While Weir said he could not comment on the specific reasons why police fear for the missing women's safety, it is publicly known that Martyn previously served time for manslaughter for running down a Saskatchewan man over a dispute over an unpaid bill in 1991.
