MONTREAL - Former world boxing champ Dave Hilton Jr. is once again in trouble with the law.

Hilton's defence lawyer says he appeared in a Laval, Que., courtroom to face charges of assault and breaking a bail condition.

Lawyer Clemente Monterosso says the alleged incident involved Hilton's ex-girlfriend.

It's the fourth time in two years the woman has filed charges with police against the former world super-middleweight champion.

The 46-year-old was acquitted in 2007 and again in January.

Hilton was also arrested in May and faces five charges, including armed assault.

The next court date in that case is in October.

The assault cases are only the latest in a string of Hilton's legal woes.

He was convicted in 2001 of sexually abusing his daughters, for which he served two-thirds of a seven-year prison sentence.

Monterosso says Hilton was with his girlfriend at a house in Laval when police took him into custody.

The lawyer says the ex-boxer will appear before a judge Tuesday for a bail hearing.
