TORONTO - Actress Anna Kendrick doesn't have the largest part in the new cop drama "End of Watch" but it's an important role.

Jake Gyllenhaal and Michael Pena star as partners on the L.A. police force, who work in one of the toughest sections of the city.

Kendrick, who has starred in "50/50" and "Up in the Air," plays Gyllenhaal's love interest.

While most of the action takes place on the streets, her scenes humanize the tough cops.

Kendrick says she was attracted to the film because it strayed from the formulas of most other police crime dramas.

The film is screening at the Toronto International Film Festival and opens in theatres September 21st.
