Police say a woman is in hospital with life-threatening injuries following a three-car crash in the Castle Downs neighbourhood Sunday around 2:30 p.m. at the intersection of 167 Avenue and 97 Street. It was reported that a Mazda 3 travelling northbound by a 31-year-old woman was waiting to turn left onto 167 Avenue. The light turned red as she was clearing the intersection and she was hit by a 27-year-old man travelling southbound in a Toyota Camry. The Mazda crashed into a power box and a Hyundai Elantra before coming to a stop at the southwest corner of the intersection. Paramedics took the woman to hospital with life-threatening injuries. The man driving the Toyota was also taken to hospital but with non-life-threatening injuries. As a precautionary measure, the driver of the Hyundai was also taken to hospital. The Major Collisions Investigation Section is investigating the crash and believe speed is a factor. Anyone who may have witnessed the crash or has dash cam footage is asked to contact Edmonton police at 780-423-4567. Anonymous tips can be submitted through Crime Stoppers.
