A man is dead after he exited his vehicle and was hit by a semi truck on Whitemud Drive Tuesday afternoon. Around 1:30 p.m., police said a van stopped on the shoulder of Whitemud Drive near 111 Street. A 39-year-old man got out of the vehicle to check it when he was hit and killed by a semi truck driving east, according to Edmonton police. A four-year-old girl was in the van but was “not physically injured,” police said in a news release. She was taken to the Stollery Children’s Hospital. A family member of the girl confirmed to CTV News Edmonton that the man was the girl’s stepfather, calling him a “doting stepdad.” The EPS Major Collisions Unit is investigating the crash.
