A man is in critical but stable condition in an Edmonton hospital after being struck by a train Friday morning in the city’s southeast. Edmonton police said officers were called to 75 Street, just south of Argyll Road, at 9:17 a.m. They found a man on the tracks who had been hit by a train. Paramedics treated the man at the scene before taking him to hospital with life-threatening injuries, police said. Patrick Waldron, a communications and media relations representative for Canadian Pacific Kansas City (CPKC), told CTV News Edmonton that a company freight train “made contact with a person” at the 75 Street crossing south of Argyll Road. He said the train did not derail. Both Edmonton police and CPKC said the incident remains under investigation. Police closed the intersection to traffic mid-morning. Although the train cleared the crossing several hours later, police and fire crews kept the road closed while investigators worked at the scene. The intersection reopened shortly after noon. Police said neither speed nor operator impairment are considered factors in the collision. With files from CTV News Edmonton’s Sean McClune
