A woman has been charged in connection with a string of arsons in Fort McMurray and Fort McKay. The fires, which damaged personal property including multiple vehicles along Alberta Drive and Poplar Crescent, were reported to RCMP on Sept. 19 Mounties said the woman was identified by a citizen who recognized clothing worn by a person in surveillance footage that was released to the public. RCMP said the woman, a 36-year-old resident of Fort McKay, was linked by police to another arson in Fort McKay in May. She has been charged with three counts of arson and one count of motor vehicle theft. “Wood Buffalo RCMP thank the public and community partners for their assistance in identifying the suspect of this investigation,” RCMP wrote in a media release. “We appreciate those who take the time to come forward and share information with police.” The woman was remanded into custody and was scheduled to appear at the Alberta Court of Justice in Fort McMurray on Thursday. Fort McKay is about 63 kilometres north of Fort McMurray.
