The City of Edmonton is asking residents to share their opinions on expanding where data centres can be built inside city limits. The city says an application was made to amend area plans for the Edmonton Energy and Technology Park to allow large data centres and power generation facilities to be built in more of the region. Changes would also include eliminating rules for mitigating environmental impacts of development in two of the park’s three precincts where data centres would be allowed. The application was made by Stantec Consulting Ltd. on behalf of Walton Global Investments Ltd. Online public engagement on the changes opened on Sept. 28 and runs until Oct. 25. Edmontonians can ask questions and share their feedback on the Engaged Edmonton website.
