A 17-year-old driver was pulled over by the Edmonton Police Service (EPS) on Sunday for driving 136 km/hr in a 50 km/hr construction zone along the Yellowhead, but the teen wasn’t the only one in trouble. Over the course of four hours along westbound Yellowhead Trail at 97 Street, police say they stopped 49 vehicles, with 11 drivers going between 90 and 99 km/hr. Four were caught going more than 100 km/hr. The 17-year-old was issued a ticket for careless driving and a mandatory court summons for speeding. “The fastest driver didn’t just nearly triple the speed limit. They also failed to stop for police, nearly caused a serious collision, and were stopped moments later,” said a social media post from EPS. “Construction zones are there to protect workers, drivers, and everyone sharing the road. At speeds like these, there’s little time to react when something goes wrong.”
