Four adults and one youth have been charged with flight from police and other trafficking-related offences after an attempted traffic stop. Mounties in Elk Point, Alta., say they deployed police dogs and officers from Cold Lake and Bonnyville after a vehicle refused to stop on Sept. 2 around 5:30 p.m. During that time, a backpack was thrown from the vehicle but later recovered. Officers used a tire deflation device to send the vehicle into the ditch. The five occupants were arrested. The backpack was found to contain 300 grams of suspected cocaine, 364 grams of suspected methamphetamines and drug trafficking paraphernalia, RCMP say. A 21-year-old woman and 17-year-old girl were charged with trafficking and flight from police. Two men, 45 and 21, were charged with possession for the purpose of trafficking, flight from police and possession of a weapon while prohibited. The final occupant, a 39-year-old man, was charged with possession for the purpose of trafficking, flight from police, breach of probation and breach of release order. All five were brought before a justice of the peace. Two were remanded into custody while the youngest were released on conditions with court dates on Sept. 15 and Oct. 6.
