We’re still anticipating a big drop in temperature starting Friday and lasting through next week. But, we’ll get sunny skies and slightly above-average temperatures for Tuesday-Thursday. An upper ridge is rippling across Alberta over the next few days and that should keep skies mostly clear for central and southern parts of the province. Further north, we’ll see some clouds in the Peace Country Tuesday and Wednesday and the Fort McMurray area should get som cloudier skies late Wednesday into Thursday. Daytime highs in the Edmonton region will be in the 12 to 14 C range for the next three days (seasonal average high is 10 C). The ridge moves off and gets replaced by some much colder air aloft towards the end of the week. It looks like that’ll be cold enough to flip precipitation over to snow. But, there’s still some uncertainty with where exactly the precip track will be. I think the most likely outcome for the Edmonton area is that we get some showers/periods of rain Friday (possibly starting late Thursday night). That rain may change over to flurries or periods of snow Friday night and then we be cloudy with a chance of some flurries Saturday. At this point, it appears the heavier snow will be in parts of east-central and northeast Alberta, rather than over the Edmonton area. However, that could change. There’s more confidence in the wind and temperature outlook. Gusty conditions will develop Friday night and continue through the day Saturday and daytime highs will drop to just slightly above 0 C by the weekend.
