Labour Day was one of wet dog smell and joy for some in St. Albert as dozens of dogs took to a local pool for a dip. The annual dog swim at Grosvenor Pool raises money for the Second Chance Animal Rescue Society (SCARS). “It’s just dogs having a blast. I don’t know how you describe it other than absolute chaos,” organizer Lara Onyskiw said. “But the joy of it – dogs are having so much fun.” Labour Day typically marks the shutdown of the outdoor pool, meaning operations are closed for humans and canines get to have their fun before the pool is cleaned and closed for another season. The tradition has been ongoing since 2012. Last year, SCARS raised more than $2,000 for their operation. Despite gloomy weather, organizers are hopeful to beat that number this year.
