Several northside schools were put on alert Tuesday morning as Edmonton police responded to a weapons complaint in the area of 144 Avenue and 92 Street. “Out of an abundance of caution, several schools in the vicinity were placed on lockdown,” said a statement from police. Dickinsfield and Northmount schools were put on alert during the police response, said an email from Edmonton Public Schools. “When a school is on alert, the doors are locked and no one is allowed to enter or leave the school, but students and staff are free to move around within the building and classes continue as normal,” said the statement. “Students were safe at all times and continued learning in their classrooms.” Edmonton Catholic School Board said St. Philip and Cardinal Léger schools were instructed to go on alert just after 9 a.m. The alert was lifted around 12:30 p.m. “At this time, the residence in question has been contained and there is no threat to public safety,” said police.
