A woman was killed and another woman was injured near the Royal Alexandra Hospital on Friday. The assault was reported near 102 Street and 110 Avenue at about 11 a.m. on Friday. Arriving police officers found a woman with critical injuries, who was taken to hospital where she died. Another woman was found with non-life-threatening injuries. Police said an “unknown suspect” fled the scene and has not yet been found as of 3 p.m. Homicide detectives have taken over the case and an autopsy is scheduled for Monday. At about 1:30 p.m., Alberta Health Services (AHS) said the Royal Alex had been locked down “as a precaution to ensure the safety of patients, staff and physicians” while police were addressing the incident. It was taken off lockdown about 45 minutes later.
