Construction on the Rainbow Bridge is complete and open to drivers, the city says. Repairs to the bridge, as well as its widening, as part of the second stage of the Terwillegar Drive Expansion Project are now finished. The bridge now has four lanes in each direction with dedicated bus lanes. The city warns Edmontonians to expect some closures during off-peak hours or overnight for finishing touches, including the median barrier on Whitemud Drive. Retaining walls and shared use pathways have also been upgraded. Construction work on Terwillegar Drive where it crosses the Henday is ongoing. There is still a traffic hiccup in the area due to slope erosion along an embankment: the curb lane on Whitemud Drive westbound is closed under the 122 Street overpass. The city says the closure will be in place until later this month. The Rainbow Valley Pedestrian Bridge also opened in July for anyone walking, cycling or rolling.
