Parts of the University of Alberta Hospital and Stollery Children’s Hospital are temporarily closed after unexpected flooding in the building. The flooding happened last Wednesday due a leak from a sprinkler water line, a statement from Alberta Health Services (AHS) said. A video posted on social media by AUPE GSS Local 054 shows water flooding down a staircase, out the doors and into the street. AHS was unable to determine where the video was taken. The flood affected some administrative and clinic spaces, including the adult ear, nose and throat clinic and a psychiatry clinic. These areas have been temporarily closed for repairs, AHS said. Patients in those areas have been moved to virtual appointments and others have been rescheduled for in person once a temporary space has been found. No surgeries were impacted and patient admissions have continued at the hospital, AHS added.
