A multinational building materials firm has completed the purchase of the local assets of a longtime supplier of aggregate, cement, asphalt and concrete. Heidelberg Materials North America announced Wednesday it has finished the acquisition of Burnco’s Edmonton operations eight months after it entered a binding agreement to buy them. The assets bought by the firm from the Calgary-based Burnco include six aggregate sites, three ready-mixed concrete plants, two asphalt plants, a bitumen storage terminal, and a cement distribution terminal on the rail line just north of Yellowhead Trail and west of 156 Street. “The acquisition of these operations further strengthens our existing integrated footprint in the Edmonton market, expands our product portfolio and enables us to improve service to our customers,” Oliver Patsch, the president of the northwest region for Heidelberg Materials North America, said in a media release. “We are excited about the opportunities ahead and welcome the approximately 200 employees to Heidelberg Materials.” Heidelberg Materials North America is part of Heidelberg Materials, which employs 50,000 people in almost 50 countries and is one of the world’s largest integrated manufacturers of building materials.
