Temperatures soared past expectations for the second straight day in Edmonton on Tuesday. The city hit 13.6 C Tuesday afternoon. That’s just the seventh day in the teens in November in the 2020s. Normally these big warm-ups don’t last long, which gives me pause. So... maybe we only end up with two to four days with temperatures in the teens over the next week. BUT...IF the forecast holds for this week and next, it’s possible Edmonton could see four to seven days in the teens this November. (Scroll to the end for the caveat to all of this.) I’m currently projecting six more days with highs of 13 C or warmer by Nov. 13. Wednesday (today) is one of those days. We have some clouds moving through the Edmonton area early this morning. But, those will clear out and we’ll be sunny through the afternoon. Daytime highs should be in the 12 to 14 C range, so I’m going with 13 C. The upper ridge moves off and an upper trough (cooler air aloft) ripples across the province on Thursday. It won’t last long, but it should bring some extra cloud into the picture for Thursday and temperatures will be slightly cooler. I’m going with a high of 10 C, but anywhere in the 9 to 12 C range looks possible for a high. Another upper ridge moves in to close the week and that should push temperatures back into the 12 to 15 C range for Friday-Sunday. It’s looking like Friday/Sunday will be around the top end of that range and Saturday will be near the lower end. A low-pressure system pushing across the north will bring some showers and wet snow to northern Alberta late Friday in the northwest and early Saturday in the northeast. I’ve taken the slight chance of a shower OUT of my Edmonton forecast for Friday evening because it’s very likely that all of the precip will stay well to the north of the Edmonton region. However, we WILL get some gusty wind Friday afternoon and Friday night. Saturday: light wind, partly cloudy skies and a high around 12 C. Sunday: turning a bit gusty, partly cloudy skies and a high near 15 C. Looking LONG range: Temperatures take a bit of a dip (back closer to 10 C for highs Monday/Tuesday) before another upper ridge builds in and boosts temperatures back into the teens for the middle of next week. Here’s the caveat: Those highs temperatures will come at around 4 p.m. each day and won’t last for long. Take Tuesday for example: We hovered around 10 C from noon to 3 p.m., then jumped to 14 C at 4 p.m., then right back to 11 C at 5 p.m. By 6 p.m., we had dropped to 7 C. So...YES, temperatures will be well above average throughout this week and next week. But, most of the daytime hours will be a few degrees cooler than what the high in the forecast says. That’s usually the case... but it’s even more pronounced in a pattern like this at this time of the year. Here’s the forecast for Edmonton and area: Today - Sunny with a few clouds. High: 13 Tonight - A few clouds. 9pm: 3 Thursday - Mix of sun & cloud. Morning Low: 0 Afternoon High: 10 Friday - Mix of sun & cloud. Wind SW 15 gusting to 30 during the day and gusting to 40 km/h in the evening and overnight. Morning Low: -1 Afternoon High: 14 Saturday - Partly cloudy. Light wind. Morning Low: 2 Afternoon High: 12 Sunday - Partly cloudy. Wind SW 20 gusting to 40 km/h. Morning Low: 3 Afternoon High: 15 Monday - Mainly sunny. Morning Low: 1 Afternoon High: 11
