An upper-level low over northeastern Alberta will slowly push off to the northeast over the next 24 to 36 hours. Rain on the back edge of that system pushed through the Edmonton region overnight and early Monday morning, with a few more scattered showers possible through mid-morning. However, most of the steadier rain will be west and south of the Edmonton area this morning and early afternoon. In the city, we should get some sun this afternoon and fairly clear skies tonight. Closer to the that low-pressure system, we have some showers and steadier rain in northeastern Alberta continuing through the day and heavy rain is expected from around Fort McMurray north to the border. A rainfall warning is in effect for the Fort Chipewyan region - up to 90mm is possible by midday Tuesday. We’ll also be watching for thunderstorm development from the Peace Country through Slave Lake and into the Cold Lake regions later Monday. Those storms have the potential to produce damaging wind gusts and there’s the possibility for a few funnel clouds to form. (Tornado risk is low.) Edmonton should be sunny for Tuesday morning and early afternoon. We’ll get some clouds developing in the mid to late afternoon with the chance of a scattered shower or thunderstorm in the area in the evening. We’re back to cloudy skies and a high probability of showers on Wednesday. Parts of eastern and southern Alberta have a good chance of steadier (and heavier) rain on Wednesday.
