Mild temperatures and more flurries this week

The coolest air is almost behind us. But, it’ll be a gradual warm up through this week.

Edmonton hit daytime highs of -4 C Saturday and -5 C Sunday. We’ll be around -2 C for a high today.

But...it doesn’t look like there are more than one or two days with a chance of a sub-0 C high between tomorrow and mid-April.

Daytime highs WILL stay below the seasonal average for the next little while, though.

The average afternoon high for early April is around 6 C. We’ll get two or three degrees above 0 C Tuesday/Wednesday, around 0 C Thursday and then a handful of degrees above 0 C Friday.

The coming Easter weekend has highs right around average.

As for snow... we’re not done with it yet.

We’ll see some flurries push through the Edmonton region this morning.

Wednesday has a slight chance of a few flurries and then a few centimetres of snow is possible on Thursday.

There’s also a repeat pattern in the long-range outlook for next week that has us looking at a chance of some flurries or light snow Monday and the possibility for some heavier snow next Thursday (April 9).

Despite the rain we had earlier in the month, it’s not at all unusual to be getting snow at this time of year.

On average, we get about 20 cm of snow in March (we’ve had 15-20 this year)... and we average 15 cm of snow in April in Edmonton.

Bottom line: Milder temperatures will settle in through the first week of April with a daily freeze-thaw cycle (watch for slick roads in the mornings).

Snow will slowly start melting away, but we’ll get a few more shots of flurries/snow this week and next.
