Temperatures should be near average to slightly above average through Thursday in Edmonton. However, there’s a BIG cool down on the way to close the week and that could bring some snow to central and north-central Alberta Friday night/Saturday. We have cloudy skies over the Edmonton area for Monday with some mixed precipitation northeast of Edmonton near Athabasca and some flurries in the foothills. I don’t think we’ll get any of that precipitation in the Edmonton area Monday. It should just stay mostly cloudy with a high near 10 C and relatively light wind. An upper ridge ripples across the province Tuesday/Wednesday. That’ll bring back the sunshine and boost temperatures. Morning lows will be around or slightly below 0 C Tuesday-Thursday. But, daytime highs should hit the 11 to 14 C range. (The seasonal average high for this week is 9 C.) There’s still a fair amount of uncertainty with the setup for the end of this week, but it looks like the upper ridge will move off and some much colder air will move in aloft. We’re also expecting a strong area of low pressure to move up towards Alberta from the south with a decent amount of moisture tied up with it on Friday/Saturday. The location and intensity of that precipitation remains TBA. However, it’s possibly that we’ll see some showers turning to wet flurries on Friday... some gusty wind late Friday into Saturday. AND... it’s possible that we’ll have some flurries or snow in the Edmonton region on Saturday. There’s a higher degree of certainty with the temperature drop. Daytime highs will slip to around 5 C on Friday and we’re expecting to see daytime highs just slightly above 0 C for the coming weekend and early next week. Bottom line: There’s a big drop in temperature coming for the end of this week and that COULD be partnered with a bit of snow. Here’s the forecast for Edmonton and area: Today - Mostly cloudy.
