Alberta Health Services (AHS) is warning the public after an infectious measles exposure at the Edmonton International Airport last week. People who were on flight AC171 on Dec. 2 and at the Edmonton airport may have been exposed, AHS said in a health advisory. The flight left Toronto Pearson Airport at 2:50 p.m. MT and arrived in Edmonton at 7:10 p.m. Anyone at the baggage claim area between 7:10 and 9:45 p.m. may have been exposed. Anyone who was there during that time, was born in or after 1970 and has received fewer than two measles shots or who has never had measles before is at risk, AHS says. Another positive measles case was confirmed at the Stollery Children’s Hospital last week. The times of exposure were from 8 p.m. on Dec. 3 to 1:16 a.m. on Dec. 4 at the Stollery Children’s Hospital emergency department and from 11:16 p.m. on Dec. 3 to 2:30 a.m. on Dec. 4 at the inside area of the centre. Symptoms of the measles include a fever of 38.3C or higher, cough, runny nose and/or red eyes and a rash that appears three to seven days after fever starts. It usually begins behind the ears and on the face, spreading down to the body. If symptoms develop, people are asked to stay at home and call the measles hotline at 1-844-944-3434 before visiting any health care facility.
