Mayor Andrew Knack formally proclaimed April 20-24 Tourism Week in Edmonton on Monday. “Tourism week is an opportunity to get Edmontonians excited about visiting their own city, as well as getting other people excited about visiting Edmonton.… We want Edmontonians to have a chance to explore maybe something they haven’t checked out before. We want others who are coming in, maybe for the Oilers playoff games, to spend an extra day in and check out all of the wonderful things we have to offer,” he told reporters. “But it’s important to remind people about the value of tourism to our local economy, how much it actually drives up our economic development, and so that’s what this week is all about.” According to Explore Edmonton, visitors spent $2.6 billion in the Edmonton region in 2025, while tourism spending across the province reached a record of $15.2 billion. The spending supported 125,000 jobs. Edmonton’s venues and events had an impact of $508 million in 2025, representing a return of $17 for every dollar invested in the agency. The Edmonton Oilers’ seventh-consecutive playoff run is expected to have a multi-million dollar impact.
