Marmot Basin is hoping to attract families to its slopes with new deals and free offerings for kids. The Jasper ski-hill is expected to open in mid-November, with an exact date to be determined by weather conditions. From opening day to Dec. 19, kids ages 12 and under will be able to ski at no cost with free lift passes and rentals. A free breakfast will also be part of the package so kids can fuel up before taking a run on the hill. Brian Rode, the resort’s vice president, said the new offerings are all about making the sport more accessible. “We’re trying to make skiing as affordable as possible for families to get them out on the slopes,” Rode told CTV News Edmonton in an interview on Friday, adding that people are starting to realize Jasper is open for business following the devastating wildfires in 2024. “People are understanding that with the ski area undamaged and the community as vibrant as it is, they’re coming back and we’re starting to hear that as, ‘OK. We’re ready to come back to Jasper.’ But it definitely had an impact last year.” Rode said a discounted family package will also be available for $269 from opening day to Dec. 19, which includes passes for two adults and two children ages 17 and under. The price goes up to $349 following the promotion’s end. Marmot Basin boasts both family-friendly terrain and more advanced hills for expert skiers, according to Rode.
