This Mother’s Day, one Edmonton organization wants to make sure no single mom goes unnoticed. A new initiative from the Kaleo Collective is set to send messages of love and hope out to some 500 mothers on May 10. People submit supportive messages through the non-profit’s website for its “Love You, Mama” campaign. A team of volunteers then handmake cards with those messages written inside. “I was a single mom for a number of years, so I know firsthand what Mother’s Day can feel like when you don’t have a partner or a spouse who’s there to celebrate you and make sure that day is extra special for you,” said Kaleo founder Layna Haley. The idea came from Haley first sending her close friend cards on Mother’s Day and realizing that support could be spread through the rest of the community. “There’s such an invisible load of motherhood that nobody sees,” she added. Kaleo was created to build a resource network for single mothers in the city. Messages can be submitted until May 8. Single moms can sign up to receive cards on the website – each card will be personalized with their name. With files from CTV News Edmonton’s Galen McDougall
