Loaded guns, cocaine and $39K in cash seized during northern Alberta drug trafficking investigation

Two loaded handguns, a shotgun, hundreds of grams of cocaine and $39,000 in cash were found at homes in northern Alberta during a drug trafficking investigation. (Supplied)

Two men are facing multiple charges after guns, drugs and thousands of dollars in cash were seized from homes in Cold Lake and Bonnyville.

On Thursday, RCMP said in a media release that the joint-effort investigation was targeting suspected drug trafficking in Bonnyville, Cold Lake, Elizabeth Métis Settlement, Cold Lake First Nation, and areas of Saskatchewan.

Multiple RCMP detachments and the canine unit executed searches on the two homes, which yielded:

• approximately 650 grams of suspected cocaine;
• approximately 60 grams of suspected methamphetamine;
• approximately 75 ml of GHB;
• 2 loaded handguns;
• A shotgun; and
• approximately $39,000 in Canadian cash.

A 48-year-old resident of Cold Lake was charged with 15 offences, including:

• three counts of possession for the purpose of trafficking;
• two counts of possession of a prohibited firearm;
• possession of a firearm obtained by crime;
• possession of a firearm without a valid license; and
• three counts of possession of a firearm or prohibited device while on a court order.

He was remanded into custody and was scheduled to appear at the Alberta Court of Justice in Cold Lake on Wednesday.

A 39-year-old Bonnyville resident was charged with five counts of trafficking in a controlled substance and possession for the purpose of trafficking. He was released on conditions and was scheduled to appear at the Alberta Court of Justice in Cold Lake on Oct. 14.
