‘Living the dream’: Edmonton’s Nathan Fillion basks in Superman co-starring role

Edmonton's Nathan Fillion says he was thrilled to be able to play the role of Green Lantern in the upcoming 'Superman' movie.

Edmonton-born actor Nathan Fillion is living out a childhood dream playing a super hero in the new Superman movie.

Fillion attended the world premiere of the film on Monday night at the TCL Theater in Los Angeles.

Fillion stars as the Green Lantern in the James Gun remake of the DC Universe’s man-of-steel film. The cast is led by David Corenswet in the titular role of Clark Kent/Superman, Rachel Brosnahan as Lois Lane and Nicholas Hoult as the villainous Lex Luthor.

“This is crazy. I had a comic book back in my room when I was a kid,” Fillion told an Etalk reporter on the red carpet. “I was steeped in all of this stuff and here I am.”

He added that he is “living the dream” as an actor who gets to do what he loves.

“All the stuff I got in trouble for as a kid – daydreaming, drawing in the margins of my binders when I should have been studying or taking notes – and who’s laughing now.”

When asked if he stole any props from the film set, Fillion cheekily said ‘no’ and raised his fist up to reveal a Green Lantern ring, which gives its wearer super powers in the comics. He also admitted that he stole the teeth prosthetics that he wears in the movie.

Superman will open in theatres on Friday.
