Young cyclists from across Canada were in Edmonton Sunday, wrapping up the three-day 2026 Canadian Track Championships. The event was held at the recently-opened Coronation Park Sports and Recreation Centre, the first indoor triathlon training centre in North America. “We literally could host an Olympic level competition here … the sky is the limit for what’s going to happen at this facility,” said Scott Fisher, board chair for the Alberta Velodrome Association. “From our launch in January, it’s exceeded our expectations of how many people have come out.” Fisher said there are more than 500 people certified on the track, and encourages people of all skill levels to come out. “If you can ride your bike, you can ride this track.” Kalea Giesler, a 13-year-old competitor representing Alberta said she was intimidated competing with older cyclists at first. “It’s really scary, but I’m really proud of myself for being here,” she said. “I’ve made so many friends, the environment here is just so much fun.” Future velodrome events and certification information can be found here.
