As a wise man once quoted Wayne Gretzky, “You miss 100 per cent of the shots you don’t take.” An Edmonton auto shop is taking that sitcom reference and running with it. Nothing But Tires – a misnomer, considering it now offers auto services like brakes, oil changes and other general maintenance – is gaining traction for its shot-for-shot remake of the opening scene of The Office. The Instagram reel has so far garnered nearly 400,000 likes. Owner Jordan Maruschak (who plays Michael Scott) credits the video’s success to his creative team, Noah and Ryan, whom he hired a year and a half ago. “Originally when I hired them, I was heavily involved in all the creative. Now … These guys will just go and make whatever video,” he told CTV News Edmonton on Tuesday. “The expectation is really just to entertain. We do get business off of it, but that’s not the premise. If you watch our videos, we’re not trying to sell tires in most of them.” If customers happen to recognize the business from the video, and think of it during tire swapping seasons, it’s an added bonus, Maruschak says. “I guess nowadays you’ve got to do a little something extra … There’s too much noise, right? You’ve got to cut through it and make it funny. People want to laugh for free.” The shop intends to continue its recreation of certain scenes, “push the envelope,” and have fun.
