Here are some of the new and noteworthy events in and around the Edmonton area this weekend: Boots and Hearts West Ice District’s Fan Park hosts Shaboozey, Russell Dickerson, Midland and more on Friday and Saturday. Some single and two-day passes are still on sale. Alberta Day The Alberta Act came into effect on Sept. 1, 1905 and has been celebrated as Alberta Day ever since. The provincial government is hosting events in Calgary and Edmonton on Sunday. The Alberta legislature will be hosting a free, family-friendly day of activities to mark the occasion. Art Battle Edmonton A live auction at the Pure Casino Yellowhead on Saturday evening. Twelve artists paint live for twenty-minute rounds while attendees vote from their phones. The room decides who wins and what sells. Advance entry is $20. ESO Outdoors: Station Lands Downtown The Edmonton Symphony Orchestra is once against bringing the classics and the hits to an outdoor venue near you. This Saturday’s 7 p.m. performance takes place at Station Lands Downtown near the Epcor tower. Jerk and Jollof Fest This Saturday’s celebration of African and Caribbean diasporas comes to Louise McKinney Riverfront Park for the first time since outgrowing its typical Borden Park home. From 1 p.m. to 8 p.m., local vendors will offer cuisine, art, music and fashion. ‘Bent’iversary of an Edmonton brewery staple Bent Stick Brewing is celebrating its 10th anniversary with a two-day dock party on Saturday and Sunday. There will be 12 acts, local food vendors and of course, beer. Monster Jam It’s back at Rogers Place Saturday and Sunday for the summer series. This weekend marks the Canadian debut appearance of the all-new Bailey Circuit Monster Jam Truck. A full lineup of the daredevil riders can be found online. Lemonade Stand Day The Stollery Children’s Hospital Foundation is asking Edmontonians to head out to Lemonade Trail and grabbing refreshments from a nearby stand this weekend. More than 700 stands are participating in this community event. Proceeds to go funding the purchase of NICView cameras for neonatal intensive care units across northern Alberta. Yorùbá Gb’òde A festival of colour and light at Sir Winston Churchill Square downtown, celebrating Yoruba culture all Saturday long. Attendees are advised to come hungry for dishes like jollof rice, amala with ewedu, moi moi and more. Hong Kong Carnival Edmonton’s 5th-annual Hong Kong Carnival hits William Hawrelak Park on Saturday from 3:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. Festivities include a mini concert, magic show, cotton candy and other treats, crafts and traditional games.
