For its 21st year, the Kaleido Family Arts Festival will be back to take over Alberta Avenue starting Friday. The festival is known for showcasing local and travelling music, theatre, dance, street performances, food, artisans, art galleries and more. “It’s a little bit of everything,” said the festival’s artistic director and general manager Christy Morin. “There is a place for everybody.” The theme for this year’s festival is “Hearts Full of Gusto.” “To live with Gusto is to show up wholeheartedly to create, dance, paint, and make room for our neighbours’ stories,” said Morin. “That feels a lot like Kaleido. The free, family-friendly fest starts Friday at 6 p.m. and runs through to Sunday with a closing musical performance on the main stage by Edmonton’s own Rumba Caliente. Edmonton’s Juno-nominated soul and roots band Secondhand Dreamcar will be headlining the mainstage on Saturday followed by a performance by Cirque Kalabanté Productions. “We hope that when people come to Kaleido, they aren’t the same person going home,” said Morin. “They see a cultural performance that actually speaks to them in a way they didn’t know could happen, and they walk away a different person.” The Kaleido Festival is on 118 Avenue between 90 Street and 95 Street.
